His Legs Keep Going and Going

Tuesday, April 27, 2010

It amazes me how far a little boy can ride a bike! For every rotation I make, Ethan must make a handful. He can ride 2 miles a day easily. We've been visiting the baby ducks the last two days. Our friends, Hudson and Carter, even joined the ride today. We've decided on weekly bike trips with our friends throughout the summer months. We might decide otherwise when the 120 degree weather hits! Follow us on our biking journeys. :)

Learning to Ride a Bike

Saturday, April 24, 2010

Ethan has been practicing little by little since Easter when GG and Lenny gave him a new green bike and helmet. Daddy-o initially raised the back tire off the ground so Ethan could pedal without going anywhere. He was having a hard time pedaling forward. Breaking came easy.
He really took off in the last week, with a few more pedals a day. And then today, he not only rode down our street and back several times (!!), he rode with me about another 1/2 mile around the neighborhood! Yes, he has training wheels, but to ride that far really amazed me! I think we're biking all the way to the park tomorrow. He loves it! Now I just need a bike instead of borrowing Daddy-o's bike. :)

Deadliest Catch

Wednesday, April 21, 2010

One of the boys favorite shows was on last night, but we had to watch it via tivo earlier tonight.

Ethan: I really like the black boat. I don't like this one (the blue boat). They have lots of big spiders.
Daddy-o: Those aren't spiders. Those are crabs. Has he eaten one?
Mom: No. Ethan, would you like to eat a crab?
Ethan: No. Crabs are not nummy (yummy).
Mom: They might be good with ketchup.
Ethan: Where is the black boat? I see more spiders.

Honestly, kids says the funniest things!

A Pilot in the Making

Daddy-o used to take flight lessons when he was younger. Perhaps Ethan will take this up down the road. We took friends Hayden and Kate to the local airport cafe for lunch where the planes come and go all day within feet of you (the flight school is next door). The boys were glued to the windows! When we left one of the flight school instructors kindly let the boys sit in an airplane he had just flown in. The gas trucks and helicopters were a hit, too!

Sleep? What's that?

Monday, April 19, 2010

Sleeping has been an issue lately. Ethan can seem to survive on no nap and staying up all hours of the night. We've tried everything, including putting the dog gate up in front of his bedroom door to keep him wrangled in there. :)

Mom: Ethan it's almost time for bed. Two more books and then into bed you go. Do you understand me?
Ethan: Yes.
Mom: Ethan, it's almost time for bed. One more book and then into bed you go. Do you understand me?

Ethan: Yes.
Mom: Ok, time for bed. Let's get you snuggled up under the covers. Froggy, snoopy and lamb are all with you and ready for bed. Here's your water. Do you want your music on?
Ethan: No.
Mom: Ok, I'm turning off the lights. I'll see you in the morning. You have a good night and sweet dreams. I love you.
Ethan: I can't see you Mom. Turn on the lights.
Mom: You don't need to see me. I'm right here. It's time for bed.
Ethan: I can't see you Mom. Sleep with me Mom.
Mom: Mommy has things to get done. You need to lay down and go to sleep. I'll be right down the hall. I'll come back in 5 minutes to check on you.
Ethan: (Already out of bed, trying to follow Mom down the hall.)
Mom: (Keeps putting Ethan back in bed after getting out. Eventually the dog gate goes up.)
Ethan: (Crying, then silence and eventually standing in front of Mom again.)
Mom: Ethan, what are you doing out of your room? Why aren't you sleeping?
Ethan: I can't see you. I need you. I love you.
Mom: How did you get out of your room with the dog gate (very curious)?
Ethan: I pushed and I pushed it down.
Mom: Do you see my face? What kind of face is this?
Ethan: Mad face.
Mom: Why do you think it's a mad face?
Ethan: I'm not sleeping.
Mom: Ok, so you need to go to bed. You need your rest. Your bed or mine. Pick one and go lay down. (Kisses and hugs.)
Ethan: (Runs into our bedroom with duck.)
Mom: (About 10 minutes later, he's at the door and only 5 feet away from me. I have to carry him to his bed.)

Can you say separation anxiety?

Alice in Wonderland

Saturday, April 17, 2010

We had movie night at home tonight. I had picked up the original Alice in Wonderland. I needed something different from Bob the Builder. Ethan watches the same Bob the Builder movie every day. I used to do the same thing when I was his age, but my movie of choice was the Wizard of Oz. How do kids do it?

Mom: Ethan, did you like Alice in Wonderland?
Ethan: No, I didn't like that story.
Mom: Why didn't you like the movie?
Ethan: Because she couldn't find the white rabbit.
Mom: You wanted to see the white rabbit?
Ethan: Yes. The brown rabbit threw him into the trees.

6:30 pm Play time. All the monster trucks and airplanes come out.

7 pm Survivor Night on TV and we all watch as a family. Ethan screams, "Go goodies" for the heroes. For some reason though he thought Jerry and Russell were "goodies." He didn't like it when I called them "naughty!"

8 pm Nightly scorpion hunt with blacklights outside. Ethan takes a light, John takes a light and scorpion spray and I take the baggies and tongs. We picked them off one by one. Only 3 tonight. We caught 17 a few days ago! If anyone needs them for a science experiment, please let me know. ;)

8:30 pm Bath, books and bed for the youngest family member.

Happy Birthday Daddy-O

We celebrated Daddy-O's birthday this past weekend. There was a small surprise dinner with our godchildren on Saturday night and brunch on Sunday. Daddy-O was surprised with a new ham radio, photo album and Rat Rod Electra bike. I'm the only one waiting on a new bike now. Got it picked out, too. Just need my birthday to come and Ethan to master riding his early birthday bike and we'll be set! :)

Meeting Baby Jameson

We were thrilled to meet Baby Jameson last week! Becca and Justin have been blessed. He's so sweet and tiny. It's hard to remember Ethan that small. We can't wait to see Jameson grow up.
Mom: Where's my baby?
Ethan: What baby?
Mom: I remember when you were a
little baby like Jameson.
Ethan: I'm a big boy now. My legs are getting taller. I'm getting to be 3 (years old).

Eggs-cellent Easter

Sunday, April 11, 2010

We did find the Golden Egg again this year in California, although I think they were trying to trick us! It wasn't golden. It had written "Golden Egg" on it. My geocaching skills have paid off. I'm afraid if we keep up this winning spree though we'll be band from future hunts! Easter was a time to spend with John's family and the bunnies. :)
