It Was Bound to Happen

Wednesday, December 16, 2009

Well, we figured one day there would be a broken bone, but who knew it would come at two! To end our Winter Wonderland trip, Ethan fell out of bed onto a hardwood floor and ended up breaking his collar bone! He got his sling today after a handful of x-rays, some painful poking and prodding by the doctors. They say it will heal in 4-6 weeks. He was trying to strike a pose, while holding a pumpkin pen and his little arm started to slip out of the sling. Oh, boy!

Winter Wonderland

In my on-going search to seek out fun and unique opportunities across our state, I came across the North Pole Experience. We drove to Greer, where 2 feet of fresh snow had just landed. That evening we boarded a trolley with Santa's helpers. We were wisked away to the "North Pole" where we explored Santa's workshop, made toys, enjoyed snow soup (hot chocolate) and cookies, learned about elf school, met with Santa and heard stories from Mrs. Claus. Santa even visited us the next morning at breakfast. He told us about the best sledding in town, but with the very chilly weather and winds, we opted to make snow angels, snow buildings and have snowball fights around our cabin.

Auntie: Ethan, do not go down the slide.
Ethan: You no tell me no.
Auntie: I said no.
Ethan: No.
Auntie: No.
Ethan: No.
Auntie: Time out.
Ethan: Pouts

Tis the Season

It's been a little crazy in the Graham house lately. I thought we might never decorate our Christmas tree with ornaments. I began to think the berries and white lights looked beautiful by themselves. How could I pass up decorating the tree though? Some of my best memories growing up were from Christmas time... decorating the tree (My favorite ornament was the orange bird in the glass cage. My parents still have that bird.), my Santa visit and the Holly Hobby oven I got, driving up and down Candy Cane Lane to see the Christmas lights and decorations and counting presents on Christmas morning. I want Ethan to have great memories, too. So, he decorated the bottom 1/3 of the tree. There were so many ornaments along the very bottom I had to get Ethan a step stool to start hanging them higher. This was the start to our holiday season... more to come!

Cousin Barry

Ethan doesn't get to see his cousin Barry near enough because she lives in Oregon, but when they get together, you can tell how much they love each other.

My Uncle

My uncle Jason is the coolest uncle ever! He likes adventure, just like me. He likes gadgets and fixing things, just like me. He likes pasta, just like me. He likes sleeping in, just like me. He likes swimming, just like me. Good thing my uncle doesn't live too far away. I really like spending time with him!

Maxx is Back

...from college in Colorado. I'm not sure who was more excited, Ethan or Maxx. I still keep in touch with one of the families I babysat for growing up. Those babies are now college graduates! I'm glad Maxx keeps in touch and wants to see Ethan on all of her holiday breaks.

Jack and the Beanstalk

I started taking Ethan to plays when he was only 6 months old. His first play was Good Night Moon, one of my favorite childhood stories. I caught wind of Jack and the Beanstalk at the last minute so decided to take Ethan and our Godchildren, even though Ethan had yet to hear the story.
